to be filter/plugin free!
 
Barbara and I worked hard
to make it able to be done in 
various Paint Shop Pro
versions.
 
Needed:
 
Paint Shop Pro
I used PSP X5, but this can be
done in other versions.
Instructions are given accordingly.
 
A graphic that is taller than
wide.
*I used one by Carla Secco,
that I purchased through
 
Note: You can use something
close to square, but no more
than 9/10ths ratio of width to
height.
 
My "tiny stitches" located
here. Unzip and place in your
Styled Lines Folder.
 
*Settings will stay the same
unless stated otherwise.

Let's Begin!

1. File > Open your chosen
graphic.
 
2. Window > Duplicate
Close the original.
 
3. Image > Resize
Settings:
Resample using = Weighted
Average
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resize all layers = Checked
Height = 400 Pixels
Width will adjust.
Write down the width of your
image.
 
4. Adjust > Sharpness >
Unsharp Mask
Settings:
Radius = 1.00
Strength = 47
Clipping = 5
Luminance = Not checked
 
5. Edit > Copy
This is to be used later, as well
as to come back to and copy if
at any time you aren't able to
paste into selection where
needed.
 
6. Dropper Tool
Left click on your image for a
dark foreground color (for the
stitches).
Right click on your image for
a light or medium background
color (for the quilt border).
 
7. File > New
Settings:
Width and Height = 40 Pixels
Resolution = 72
Raster Background = Checked
Color depth = RGB - 8
bits/channel
Transparent = Checked
 
8. Selection Tool > Custom
Selection
Settings:
Top = 0
Left = 0
Right = 20
Bottom = 20
 
9. Edit > Paste Into Selection
 
10. Effects > Reflection Effects
> Pattern
Settings:
Using the Randomize
Parameters Button (the dice),
find a pattern you like for
your first quilt piece.
 
11. Effects > 3D Effects >
Inner Bevel
Settings:
Bevel = 2
Width = 5
Smoothness = 3
Depth = 1
Ambience = 10
Shininess = 0
Color = White
Angle = 315
Intensity = 50
Elevation = 30
 
12. Selection Tool > Custom
Selection
Top = 0
Left = 20
Right = 40
Bottom = 20
 
13. Edit > Paste Into Selection
 
14. Effects > Reflection Effects
> Pattern
Settings:
Using the Randomize
Parameters Button,
find a pattern different in
main colors/pattern from your
previous quilt piece.
 
15. Effects > 3D Effects >
Inner Bevel
 
16. Selection Tool > Custom
Selection
Top = 20

Mode = Replace
Feather = 0
Anti-alias = Checked
Draw a small circle anywhere
on this small quilted piece.
This will be your button.
It will be placed correctly
later.
 
27. Flood Fill tool
Flood fill with your dark
color, or another of choice.
 
28. Effects > 3D Effects >
Inner Bevel
 
29. Selections > Select None
 
30. Edit > Cut
We are doing this because
not all PSPs could align
center, so we will go this
route.
 
31. Edit > Paste As New Layer
Your button is now centered!
 
32.  Effects > 3D Effects >
Drop Shadow
Settings:
Vertical and Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 70
Blur = 5.00
Color = Black
Shadow on new layer =
Unchecked
 
Optional:
33. Image > Resize
Settings:
Resample using = Bicubic
Resize all layers = Unchecked
Height and Width = 95%
repeat as needed until it is the
size you like best.
 
34. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Symmetric = Unchecked
Color = Background color
Top and Left = 0
Right = 20
Bottom = 0
 
35. Layers  > Promote
Background Layer
 
36. Image > Canvas Size
Settings:
Lock aspect ratio =
Unchecked
Width = 120 Pixels
Height = 40
Left middle arrow = Checked
 
37. Layers > Duplicate
 
38. Image > Mirror



If you don't have Mirror then:
Flip Horizontal
 






*If you used Mirror skip 39.
 
39. Effects > Image Effects >
Offset
Settings:
Offset
Horizontal = 60
Vertical = 0
Custom = Checked
Edge mode = Transparent


 



40. Image > Add Borders

Vertical = -40 (minus)

Settings:
Mode = Add (Shift)
Match mode = RGB Value
Tolerance = 0
Use all layers = Unchecked
Contiguous = Checked
Feather = 0
Anti-alias = Checked
Inside = Checked
Select the two solid colored
borders with the magic wand.
 
56. Adjust > Add/Remove
Noise >
Add Noise
Settings:
Gaussian = Checked
Noise = 5
Monochrome = Checked
 
57. Effects > 3D Effects >
Inner Bevel
Settings:
Color = Light grey
 
58. Selection > Select None
 
*Optional step:
59. I used a dark stitch, but if
you want to use a light
one, place that as your
foreground color. Feel free to
change your color at this
point.
 
60. Image > Rotate Right

62. Pen Tool
Settings:
Mode = Draw Lines and
Polylines
Connect Segments =
Unchecked
Create On Vector = Checked
Show Nodes = Unchecked
Line style = tiny stitches
Width = 2
Anti-alias = Checked
Join = Miter Join (First one)
Miter limit = 15
Apply your stitched color by
clicking at x:0, y:60






and again at x:399, y:60.






Click the Apply button.
 
*Some PSP versions need
Steps 63 and 64 switched.
 
63. Layers > Convert to
Raster Layer
 
64. Objects > Align > Horizontal
Center
 
Optional:
65. In Layer Palette
Blend Mode = Multiply.
This makes a dark stitch
darker.
  
66. Layers > Merge Visible
 
67. Image > Rotate Left
 
68. Image > Canvas Size
Settings:
Width = Width of graphic plus
280 Pixels
Left middle arrow = Checked
 
69. Effects > 3D Effects >
Drop Shadow
 
70. Layers > Duplicate
 
71. Image > Mirror
If you don't have that:
Flip Horizontal

**Note how wide your image is.
 
72. Effects > Image Effects >
Offset
Horizontal setting = Your
total image width minus 140.
Vertical = 0.
For example, if your image is
593, place 453 in Horizontal.

73. Activate graphic we had
set aside.
Edit > Copy
 
74. Activate your quilted frame.
 
75. Edit > Paste As New Layer
 
76. Layers > Arrange > Send
to Bottom
 
77.  Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Symmetric = Checked
Color = Same as previous
border (or another color from
your image)
Size in pixels = 20
 
78. Selections > Select All
(You may need to click on
your selections tool for this to
show.)
 
79. Selections > Modify >
Contract
Settings:
Number of pixels = 20
 
80. Selections > Invert
 
 
81. Adjust > Add/Remove
Noise > Add Noise
 
82. Effects > 3D Effects >
Inner Bevel
 
83. Selections > Select None
 
Optional:
84. Image > Resize
Settings changes:
Resize all layers = Checked
Height = will adjust
Width Your choice in pixels.
*Some like 550 pixels wide.
 
 85. Add your copyright
information.
 
86. Save as png or jpg.
